About Shrewsbury & Atcham Air Quality Data

Shrewsbury and Atcham has an established programme of periodic and continuous air quality monitoring dating back to 1999. We have recently rationalised our continuous monitoring location by changing to a newly commissioned station in Shrewsbury town centre. We also place more simple monitoring devices (known as diffusion tubes) every month at fifty other monitoring locations across the borough. The diffusion tubes provide monthly average results for each monitoring location.

This air quality monitoring station is designed to target a loaction where air quality is likely to be poor and as a result focuses on measuring vehicle emissions and fine particulates at the roadside to also assist predicting levels where people live.

The website also provides access to data from fifty periodic monitoring locations updated as monthly results. Nitrogen dioxide levels are monitored at these locations using a technique called passive diffusion tubes.

We hope that you find the site of interest and that you enjoy using it. The primary function of the website is to provide information that is both interesting and informative. We hope that we have achieved these aims.
